Fall 2011 anime events/ ideas

I figure it wouldn’t hurt to post up some more event ideas, or at least fire up our thinking engine’s for the fall semester…  that being said there isn’t really any holidays i want to celebrate in this semester since I’m not black, (MLK JR day)  or have a girlfriend (Valentines day) we’ll have to make up our own events, I’m thinking more off campus type hangouts, the swap meet was cool, etc maybe  more themed nights, (I’m always down for another mecha night)… post ideas below

Music Night – October 21st (update)

Okay, here’s our lineup for music night:

Nodame Cantabile, episode 1
Beck, episode 5 (English)
Beck, episode 10 (Japanese)
Nana, episode 17
The Legend of Black Heaven, episode 2
K-On, episode 14
Detroit Metal City, episodes 1-2 (~15 min. each)

I included two episodes of Beck because I couldn’t find anything better. Also I wanted people to hear both languages since there’s some who prefer each version.

Between these I would like to show some AMVs, so please submit me links to your favorites.

July 8th — Movie Night — Suggestions?

My suggestions so far:
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (movie)
Gunsmith Cats (3 episode OVA)
The Castle of Cagliostro (movie)
.hack//Liminality (4 episode OVA)
Majokko Tsukune-chan (hour long OVA)

I’m not suggesting we watch all five, but this may be a jumping off point at least. Anyone else have any ideas? As a side note, Gunsmith Cats was a show we watched at our very first club meeting, almost six years ago.

Here’s a link to what I have.

Summer 2010: Titles and Schedule.

Okay, here are the results of the voting last night:
Darker Than Black Season 2: 11 votes
Toaru Kagaku no Railgun: 10 votes
Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040: 8 votes
Rental Magica: 8 votes
El Cazador de la Bruja: 7 votes
K-On: 7 votes
Twelve Kingdoms: 5 votes
Cromartie High School: 4 votes

We ended up taking the top three titles as our selections. Bubblegum Crisis won out over Rental Magica in a quick runoff election after the voting ended.

As an additional title to watch, Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal was selected, a four episode OVA series which serves as a prequel to the Rurouni Kenshin TV anime. Due to the addition of Samurai X to our list of titles, we had to sacrifice a theme night/movie night. However, we do have enough time available at the final meeting of the semester to watch a movie or do something else.

New anime from Japan?

Feel free to post new anime stuff here. I’ll start by saying that Aria the Scarlet Ammo light novel series has been made into an anime. A brief synopsis of the story as viewed on ANN ” The story takes place in Tokyo Butei High School, a special school where armed detectives — “Butei” — are trained to use weapons. Kinji T?yama is a second-year-student who has a special ability, but he keeps it a secret to maintain an ordinary, peaceful life. However, when he gets caught in a bombing on the way to school, he encounters H. Aria Kanzaki, the most powerful S-Rank Butei student in Assault Studies”. It’s a very interesting series based on what I’ve read from the manga , which can be found here :  http://www.onemanga.com/Aria_the_Scarlet_Ammo/
